Chesterfield Royal Hospital is a large district general hospital with 569 acute beds. It has two paediatric wards with 20 medical and 20 surgical inpatient beds. Outpatient services are available in the purpose built Child Development Centre (The Den). These include Child Psychology, Hearing Services, Community Nursing, a Child Development Nursery, Children's Diabetes and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
There is a level 2 neonatal unit providing care to babies born at 27 weeks gestation or above. There are 14 cots, 3 of which are designated critical care cots and the rest provide special care.
Outpatient clinics take place in the den and there are a number of joint outreach clinics with consultants visiting from elsewhere in the region. Specialties covered include urinary & bowel continence, diabetes, endocrinology, rheumatology, neurology, renal, cystic fibrosis, and orthopaedics.
